New Skaters/Players – ‘Freshmeat’

We’re pleased to announce that our doors are open to new skaters once more.

The first hour of our first Sunday session of the month is open to women over 18 years who already can already skate.

You must have basic skating skills, and you will be taught the rest. We expect you to have your own kit (see below) but if you desperately need to borrow pads then let us know in advance please.

You will need:

Skates (quads only)
Knee, elbow and wrist guards/pads
Helmet
Mouth Guard

Your first session is free, and you are free to stay to watch our league scrimmage afterwards.

To register your interest and for further details, please email recruitment[at]seasidesirenrollergirls.com stating your name, a contact number and your current level of skating ability. Or please comment on the relevant monthly event linked to our Facebook page.

Transferring Skaters
At our discretion, we will occasionally take on skaters who wish to switch from another league.
Transferring skaters will need to be already minimum skills passed and safe to scrimmage, and be able to provide written evidence of this. Transferring skaters will also need to provide a reference from a director (or equivalent) of their current league. We do not allow skaters to join SSRG whilst still a member of another league.

If you wish to be considered as a transferring skater please contact us.

Referees
We’re always looking for people who would like to join us as referees.
We’re not just looking for men either! Some of the best referees in the UK are female.

If you can skate and want to be involved then please contact us.

Don’t fancy reffing? Bambi on skates?
You don’t have to skate to be a Siren. There are many other roles within the league that are extremely important and valued just as much as the skating roles. For that reason we regard all members of our league, skating or non-skating, as Sirens.

NSOs
NSO stands for Non-Skating Official. The NSOs work with the refs to ensure that the game runs smoothly, fairly and safely as possible. Quite simply without NSOs the game couldn’t happen.
If you are a female SSRG NSO you will be eligible to tryout for any team skating spots that come up before these positions are advertised publicly.

If you’re interested in become an NSO please contact us.

Volunteers
A lot of time and energy goes into putting on a bout and also our fundraising events. We currently plan for at least four home bouts a season and two fundraising events. Volunteers are invaluable to help us make this happen, especially at our home bouts when the majority of the league is either skating, reffing or NSOing! Examples of jobs that we ask our volunteers to help us with could be flyering pre-event, door management, audience management, ticket sales, merchandise sales etc.

If you are interested in volunteering for us then please contact us.

Announcers
Announcers are an important part of a game, and announcing is definitely an art. Announcers need to have big personalities, be skilled in engaging the audience, know the rules of the game very well but be able to describe the game without being too technical. Another important skill is not giving away certain plays that are about to happen in case the other team are listening. And that’s just the basics!

We currently have one AFTDA qualified full-time announcer. If you’re interested in finding out more please contact us.
