24.08.2010 Please support the campaign to open RollaCity in Rochford, Essex.

Last week (19-8-2010) after a meeting with Rochford District Council – Rochford (and the Southend area) lost out on a fantastic business and recreational opportunity – RollaCity. The planning application was lost by just one vote. Sixteen of the councillors eligible to vote, couldn’t even make the meeting.

As a league we have been in contact with the people behind the application since the plans were made public. This contact has been very encouraging and they have been very supportive of our league. As a league we believe that a new roller rink can be nothing but a positive addition to the area. As such we are asking for your help.

A petition has been set up as part of a new campaign which is going to be started to help the would-be owners with their appeal against the council/application.

Please could you sign this petition and show your support for what will be an amazing facility for all of the surrounding area to enjoy.

As fans of rollersports already, I’m sure I don’t need to tell you what a great opportunity this could be for families in the area, our league and other local rollersports teams.

They really need everyone’s support on this. Please sign and ask your friends and family to support this campaign/appeal too!

24.08.2010 Congratulations!

Belated congratulations (we’ve been busy skating – sorry) to Hell de Jour, Wham Paige and Force Ten Gail for taking part in the mixed league bout ‘Space Jam’ hosted by the Dolly Rockit Rollers on 14th August.

It was their first bout and they did us so proud. So proud in fact that we’ve been invited back to take part in another DRR bout later in the year, so watch this space!

Well done ladies – go SSRG! xxx

13.08.2010 Happy Birthday Roller Derby!

Today marks the 75th birthday of our sport, and we’d just like to say that we couldn’t be more proud to be a part of such an amazing phenomenon.  We don’t have the appropriate words to express how much derby means to us, so instead please read this excellent blog post from the Commissioner  himself, Mr. Jerry Seltzer, who sums it up beautifully on such a special day.

Happy birthday derby baby! We love  you! xxx
